Hoop It Up Summer Basketball League
Southern Pines Recrecation and Parks Department will hold a summer basketball league for children ages 10-16. League games will be played at the SP Rec Center gym and will run June through August. Registration is is still open and coaches and volunteers are needed. Call 692-2463. Cost $10 residents or $25 for non-residents.
SP Youth Golf League
Kids age 8-17 are invited to participate in the youth golf instructional league in July and August. League features instruction from local golf pros and an opportunity to play area courses. Registration deadline is June 19. Registration fee is $10/$25. League limited to 40 participants. Call 692-2463 for information.
SP Jr. Tennis League
This is a fun traveling junior team for boys and girls ages 10 though rising high school seniors. (Younger, skilled players accepted.) The team travels to and hosts teams from the surrounding areas. Minimum skill of advanced beginner is necessary. Practices and matches are during the week.

North Moore Basketball Camp
The North Moore boys' basketball program will host a "Building Champions Youth Basketball Camp" June 15-18. The camp is open to boys and girls who will be in grades 3 through 9. Camp runs daily from 8:30 to noon. Cost is $40 per camper.
Registration deadline is June 9 and forms are available at North Moore High School, Elise Middle School, Highfalls and Westmoore elementary schools and Robbins Primary.

Softball Summer Camp
The North Moore Mustangs Softball Summer Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15-18 at the high school. Camp is open to girls in third grade and higher. Participants will learn softball fundamentals, compete with other campers in individual and team settings, and get advice from local high school and college coaches and players. Cost is $65. Golf and Bridge Tourney
The Moore County Republican Men's Club will be holding its 13th annual John Reburn Memorial Golf and Bridge Tournament on June 9 at the Country Club of Whispering Pines. Members are sponsoring a day of golf for armed service personnel from Ft. Bragg and Pope Air Force Base for the third consecutive year. There will also be bridge to play for those not playing golf.
The late John Reburn was a co-founder of the Republican Men's Club, the largest of its kind in North Carolina with 400 members. Those persons who would like to participate should contact Glenn Bower at 295-3958."
UP Hosts Basketball Camp
The annual Viking Basketball camp will be held June 15-18 at Union Pines High School. The camp is geared to helping participants improve their basketball skills. The camp, which has been around from more than 30 years, is open to boys and girls entering grades 3 through 9. Campers will be instructed by UPHS basketball players and coaches. There will be skill stations, activities, guest speakers and game and skills competitions. Registration for the camp is on Monday June 15 from 8 to 8:30 a.m. The cost of the camp is $40, with a $10 discount for two or more campers. The camp runs each day from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Check and money orders can be made payable to Union Pines Basketball -- attention Bobby Purvis, and mailed to him at the school, 1981 Union Church Road, Cameron, NC 28326.
Sandhills Optimist Football and Cheerleading Registration
Sandhills Optimist Club is accepting registration for tackle football for children ages 6-12 and for cheerleaders for children in grades K-6. Cost is $100 per player for ages 8-12 and $55 per player ages 6-8 and for all cheerleaders.
Ages are determined as of July 2009. Registration deadline is June 15.
The Optimists offer disciplined, competitive and fun football under the guidance and coaching of dedicated coaches. Cheerleaders will be given the chance to cheer on teams, pep up the crowds and improve their cheer skills.

PHS Basketball Camp
The Patriot basketball camp for rising third- through ninth-grade boys and girls has been set for June 15 through June 18. Each session will run from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Pinecrest High School gym.
The camp is geared toward those boys and girls desiring to improve their individual basketball skills through learning the fundamentals of the game.
Each day will include camp competitions and organized team play with other campers. The activities also include an ice cream party. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and handbook.
Pinecrest head boys' basketball coach Mike Apple is the camp director. The camp staff and speakers also include Patriot girls' head coach Alvita Thomas, members of the coaching staff at Pinecrest and other area coaches. Present and former members of the Pinecrest boys' and girls' basketball teams will also be assisting.
The cost of the camp is $45 per person. Checks should be made out to Pinecrest High School. For additional information, call Coach Mike Apple at 692-6554.
Swimming Lessons
Swim lessons for those wanting to improve their skills will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 9 to 25. Catrina Nordgren will teach this class which focuses on water adjustment, front and back floats and supported kicking. Class will be held at Bretton Woods Pool. Cost is $20 for residents and $40 non-residents.
Little Patriot Football Camp
Dates have been set for the Little Patriots Youth Football Summer Camp.
The first phase, a technique camp, will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on June 11 and 12. The second phase, a full padded camp, is also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 6 through 10.
Sponsored by Sandhills Optimist Club, the camp is available for students enrolled in kindergarten through the eighth grade. The staff will be led by Pinecrest head football coach Chris Metzger, members of his staff and area guest coaches.
The cost is $200 per person. Checks should be made payable to Sandhills Optimist Club. Registration deadline is June 1. No child will be excluded because of financial hardship.
All drills and sessions will be conducted in groups based on age. The camp combines individual and team skills/drills, and campers will improve as athletes and as people.
Camp attire is shorts, T-shirts, athletic socks, cleats and running shoes. Campers should bring lunch and plenty of water each day.

Youth Lacrosse Camps
This camp will be an introduction to the sport of lacrosse. Sam Narayan will instruct participants on the basic skills of the game. The camps will be held at Field No. 1 at Cannon Park. Participants will need a helmet, protective mask, gloves, cup, mouthpiece, chest protector and lacrosse stick. Camp runs from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 15-19. Cost is $15 per participant. Checks can be made payable to Narayan.
Youth Baseball Camp
Jeff Hewitt, head baseball coach at Pinecrest High School will lead an instructional camp for youth ages 5 to 12. The camp focuses on basic skills and techniques of baseball and will be held at the Pinecrest high school baseball field. Each camper gets a T-shirt. Registration forms available at Village Hall. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 22-25 at Pinecrest High School. Cost is $45 per participant. Checks can be made payable to Hewitt.
Patriot Gridiron Golf Tourney
The Patriot Gridiron Challenge Golf Tournament will be June 8 at Pinehurst No. 8. Tournament is a two best ball team format with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $125 per player. Running Camp
Reebok's Mountain High Running Camp will be held in Mars Hill July 13 -18.
Middle and high school cross country camp features great trails, free Reebok shoes and a staff of elite U.S. and Kenyan runners and coaches.
