POLICE BRIEFS: T'town Mayor's Son Facing Drug Charges

The son of Taylortown Mayor Ulysses Barrett faces several felony drug charges after Moore County Sheriff's officers searched his residence Monday in Pinebluff, according to a press release.
Ulysses Simpson Barrett III, 37, of 352 Countryside Drive, was charged with felony trafficking in cocaine, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony maintaining a dwelling to keep controlled substance, felony possession of cocaine, felony conspiracy to sell or deliver cocaine, felony sale of cocaine, felony deliver cocaine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor resist, obstruct and delay a law enforcement officer.
The Moore County Sheriff's narcotics unit and select enforcement unit searched his home and found 102 grams of powder cocaine. Officers found six grams of marijuana, $755 and items of drug paraphernalia, including digital scales. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $10,200.
Barrett III received a $200,000 secured bond and was placed in the Moore County Detention Center.
In another unrelated case, a Southern Pines man faces several felony drug charges after a search of a residence last Thursday yielded 160 grams of marijuana and a stolen 9-mm handgun, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.
Eddie Lee Whitehead Jr., 25, of 919 Richards Street, Southern Pines, was arrested by officers of the Moore County Sheriff's Office narcotics unit and select enforcement unit.
In addition to the marijuana and handgun, two dosages of MDMA (Ecstacy), $1,656 and items of drug paraphernalia were seized.
The Southern Pines Police Department assisted.
Whitehead was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule III controlled substance, felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony maintaining a dwelling to keep controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of a schedule III controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was jailed and his bail set at $150,000.
