Southern Pines Recreation is offering several camps this summer.

"Don't miss out on the fun this summer," says Sue Gillis, program coordinator, of Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department.

There is still space in the following camps:

n Junior Cheerleading Camp -- The first sessions will be June 22-26 with ages 3-5 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and ages 5-8 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The instructors for the first sessions will be Jordan Thompson and Megan Middleton. Two more sessions will be held Aug. 10-14 at the same times, and instructor will be Jenna Barto.

n Kids Caf Camp -- This camp is a yummy way for kids to learn about healthy eating habits, how to plan a meal, make a shopping list and prepare food. The camp will be offered to 6-8 year olds from June 22-26, and to 9-14 year olds from July 20- 24. Melanie Scercy is the instructor.

n Clay Camp -- Children will get to make a variety of sculptures using stoneware clay while learning sculptural and painting techniques and how to capture details. The camp is Monday through Friday (except Thursday when the pottery is fired) from 10 a.m. to noon. There are five sessions: June 15-19, June 29-July 3, July 13-17, July 27-31 and Aug. 10-14. This camp is appropriate for ages 5 through teens.

n KinderFun Camps -- Here's an opportunity for young campers age 3-6 years to enjoy singalongs, music, dramatics, art, group dynamics, and play. Camp is held Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to noon at Douglass Community Center. Space is limited

n Shake, Rattle and Roll -- This camp, slated to be held June 22-26, and will feature singing, dancing and making creative instruments that shake, rattle and roll. Children will pick their favorite songs and dances from the camp and perform them for parents on Friday.

n Nature Quest -- This camp, scheduled for July 6-10, offers children the chance to explore outdoors on nature walks.

n Beach Blast -- This camp, which will be held July 20-24, features innovative crafts, songs, dances and activities. Campers may decide to make a full day of it and also register for the afternoon session of Wet & Wild from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m, where, water, water is everywhere!

n Around the World in Five Days -- July 27-31. Instructor Melanie Searcy helps campers "tour the world" July 27-31.

n Once Upon a Time Fairytale Camp -- Favorite fairytales come to life as children listen to the classics Aug. 3-7.

"These camps are all opportunities for children to learn and have a great time this summer, and we still have spots available in all of them," says Gillis.
