The Sunrise Theater's Sunflix Series presents 'Everlasting Moments,' a highly acclaimed Swedish film, Thursday, June 4, through Monday, June 8.

The film is directed by five-time Oscar nominee Jan Troell, and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes for 2008.

The drama stars Maria Heiskanen, Jesper Christensen, Mikael Persbrandt, Amanda Ooms, and Hans Alfredson.

The film is set in Sweden in the early 1900s. In a time of social change and unrest, war and poverty, a young working class woman, Maria, wins a camera in a lottery.

The decision to keep it alters her whole life. The camera grants Maria new eyes with which to see the world, and brings the charming photographer, "Piff Paff Puff" into her life.

Trouble ensues when Maria's alcoholic, womanizing husband, feels threatened by the young man and his wife's newfound outlook on life.

Chuck Wilson of the LA Weekly writes that "'Everlasting Moments' is the work of a master, who draws marvelously subtle performances from Heiskanen, Persbrandt and Christensen in which the truth of a given character lies not in what is said aloud but in what is held within."

The weekday showings are at 7:30 only, and on Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 and 7:30. The drama is rated PG and runs 131 minutes.

The historic Sunrise Theater, located at 250 NW Broad Street in Southern Pines, is nonprofit. Ticket prices are $7 for evening shows and $6 for matinees. Refreshments, including beer and wine, are available, and all movies are commercial free. Contact the theater at 910-692-3611 or at www.sunrisethe ater.com.
