A six-foot tall wooden eagle has landed, and Stella McDonald would like to know where.
The eagle, a fixture at McDonald's home on Shadow Drive in Whispering Pnes for 22 years, disappeared Sunday morning, she said. She is more concerned that whoever took it, bring it back.
"It's been like a landmark for our neighborhood," she said. "It had to take at least two or three people, using a truck or trailer to take it. I just want it back."
McDonald bought the then-12-foot-tall eagle, made out of solid heart of pine, from two brothers in Pennsylvania. After several years, and several other attempts to steal it, termites started to eat away at the bottom of the eagle, forcing McDowell to cut the figure down to about six feet in length.
She secured it in a concrete pad after several attempts were made to steal it. She has informed law enforcement about the stolen eagle, and she hopes someone will come forward with some information.
But she isn't even that concerned about the culprit or culprits being caught. She simply wants her eagle back.
"He is missing, and I miss him," she said. "I hope it at least comes back the same way it got gone."
