Several peach varieties are being harvested in the Sandhills this week, and the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service recommends that residents interested in canning or freezing peaches take advantage of their abundance.

The Montgomery County Extension Center reports that sun prince, Georgia bell, Fayette, China pearl (white flesh), contender and ruston red are among the peach varieties for sale at produce stands, roadside markets and farmers markets.

Also among the locally grown produce easily found this week are sweet corn, okra, green peppers, Irish potatoes, squash, green beans, cantaloupes, watermelons, cucumbers and tomatoes.
