A mother and daughter and two infants, including one just 6 days old, suffered injuries in a two-car wreck Wednesday afternoon on N.C. 211 near Seven Lakes that closed the highway for nearly two hours.

Elizabeth Monroe, 44, Kendall Chavis, 26, Roston Chavis, 2, and Joseph Chavis, 6 days old, were injured in the wreck, according to a N.C. State Highway Patrol spokesperson. They were all in the same vehicle. Monroe is the mother of Kendall Chavis.

The driver of the other vehicle, Ronnie Chaney, 57, of Asheboro, was not injured, according to the accident report.

Monroe, of Robbins, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. The other three were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital where they were treated and released, according to a hospital spokesperson. Monroe's condition was not available.

Chaney, driving a 2007 Toyota pickup truck, was heading northwest on N.C. 211 at 1 p.m. when he crossed the center line, striking the 1993 Ford sport-utility vehicle driven by Monroe. Her vehicle overturned and came to rest in a private driveway facing west, while Chaney's truck ended up in a ditch, according to the accident report. The wreck occurred near Poor Boys Road, just past Seven Lakes.

The two infants were in child seats, according to the report. Traffic was backed up for more than a mile before the highway was reopened to traffic at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The wreck is still under investigation. Trooper J.B. Stewart is conducting the investigation.
