Birdie: Er, make that a service ace, by Alan Terry of Pinehurst and Bob "Boom Boom" Bierbaum of Seven Lakes for co-captaining the Lawn & Tennis Club's 4.0 men's tennis team to the state championship last weekend, capping a first-rate season. Terry, Bierbaum and their 13 teammates battled the heat and hard courts en route to the state title. Now the lads will represent North Carolina and uphold the Sandhills' honor by playing in the USTA's Southern Sectional Tournament in Birmingham at the end of the month. Nice work, team. And good luck in the Sectionals.
