Put me in the category of those who find any tax increase abhorrent. Having said that, I find a gas tax increase particularly so.

The folks in Raleigh have consistently raided the gasoline tax fund for a variety of programs -- hence there is no discrete tax fund.

In Washington, the record is no better -- in fact, I've seen no report on the disposition of funds from gasoline taxes.

In those circumstances, why would anyone stump for an increase?
