Seventy-First Sweeps Patriots

Undefeated Seventy-First handed the Pinecrest boys a 68-63 loss at James Moore Gym on Friday night.

The Patriots headed into the final minute of the third quarter holding a 51-43 lead. But the visitors went on a 20-3 rampage that included three dunks, putting them in front 63-54 with 4:30 left in the contest.

In a game that featured several momentum switches, the Patriots scored the next seven points, drawing to within two at 63-61 on a free throw by Cedrick Threadgill with three minutes left in the game.

Moments later, Josh Scales missed a three that would have put the home team back in front. The Patriots did not connect again until Tony Allbrooks scored with 12.4 seconds remaining and the issue decided.

The Falcons scored their final five points at the foul line to improve to 16-0 overall and 7-0 in the Mid-Southeastern Conference. The Patriots dropped to 13-3 and 4-2. They were led by Allbrooks with 11 points and Jarrin Wooten with 10. Preston Ross scored 19 points to lead the Falcons.

Earlier, the Pinecrest girls dropped a 65-30 decision to Seventy-First. Alisha Jones led the Patriots with nine points as they fell to 1-5 in conference play and 5-10 overall.
