The Union Pines wrestling team ran its record to 4-0 in the Cape Fear Valley Conference Tuesday, toppling the Triton Hawks 66-12. With the win, Union Pines remains tied for first place atop the league standings with the Southern Lee Cavaliers.

Once again Vike head coach Matt Ragsdale was moved by the show of support Union Pines received at the away match in Erwin.

"It is impressive," Ragsdale said, "we have such a fan base that they would drive one hour on a weeknight to see our young men wrestle."

Despite most of the team suffering from some sort of bug, Ragsdale felt the Vikes wrestled a great match.

"All the guys really wrestled hard," Ragsdale said. "I am very proud of them. When we get rid of all the stomach viruses and sickness we will be even better. I think everybody on the team has some sort of sickness. The most impressive thing is that they don't even consider not wrestling. Our team has realized the importance of everybody attending and being there all the time."

This Saturday the Vikings host the Union Pines Duals that begin at 9 a.m. and run through the late afternoon.

"I am very excited about this weekend," said Ragsdale. "We get the opportunity to wrestle (Parkland High School), what I think is the best team in the state regardless of classification."

Other teams competing will be Chatham Central, Harnett Central and Richmond Senior.
