S.P. Police Nab Suspect in Attempted Murder

Southern Pines police arrested a Candor man on charges of opening fire with a handgun in a convenience store parking Tuesday.

Tory Kwamae Upchurch, 19, of Leak Road, Candor, is accused of firing a handgun multiple times into a vehicle occupied by a female and her infant son. There were no injuries reported in the shooting that took place at 1:25 p.m. outside M & S Market located at 912 W. Pennsylvania Avenue in Southern Pines. He was apprehended after a search of the area, according to a press release

He was charged with attempted first degree murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.

He was placed in jail with no bail.
