Some Dressage rides were rained upon in the morning and then the winds picked up to 30 mph for the afternoon show jumping phase of the Pipe Opener II Combined Test held last Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford.
An intrepid group of local competitors prevailed to be awarded with first-place ribbons in their respective divisions.
Gina Fiore and Feral Errol put in a careful and accurate jumping round to finish with one time fault and a score of -35.8 percent to win the Intermediate division.
Carrie Dimon revved the engine on High Powered, putting in a double-clean jumping round to rest on their Dressage score of -38.5 percent and taking home the blue ribbon in the Preliminary division.
Brandenburg's Able Starlight kept her concentration in the stadium jumping phase despite a loose paper flying up in front of her to go double-clean for owner and rider Michele Lobsinger. Lobsinger rested on her Dressage score of -33.5 percent.
Classico had the best score of the show, finishing on his Dressage score of -30.5 percent to win the Novice I division with owner Doreen Schlicht in the irons.
O'Neal student Elizabeth Hart won the Novice 2 division with her horse Madison, also resting on their Dressage score of -34.3 percent.
Marc Donovan, riding Miss Marple, had one rail down in stadium jumping for a total of four faults which gave him an overall score of -34.5 percent to win the large Beginner Novice I Division.
