Biscoe Woman Injured in U.S. 1 Wreck

A Biscoe woman was seriously injured in a two-car accident on U.S. 1 in Southern Pines Thursday evening.

According to the Southern Pines Police Department, at approximately 7:08 p.m., Sylvia Lynthacum was traveling in the right lane of U.S. 1 North near the Lob Steer Restaurant when she unexpectedly turned into the path of another vehicle, driven by Jonathan Rowe of Vass, that was traveling in the left lane. Lynthacum's vehicle was struck broadside and rolled at least one time before coming to rest upright in the left lane.

Lynthacum was partially ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted by helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Rowe was not injured, but a passenger in his vehicle was taken to Moore Regional Hospital.

No further information on Lynthacum's condition was available this morning.

Southern Pines Police is continuing to investigate the accident.
