Trinity Music Academy is extending the romantic mood of Valentine's Day with an evening of chamber music. The third in this year's concert series will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Trinity United Methodist Church, corner of Russell and Blair streets in Troy.

Featured guest musicians are Alan Black, Dana Protopopescu and Joseph Meyer.

Black, in his 23rd season as principal cellist with the Charlotte Symphony, has extensive performance experience covering the spectrum from classical music, solo recitals and concertos with the Charlotte Symphony to stage performances as a soloist and chamber musician with such diverse artists as Yo-Yo Ma and Bobby McFerrin. He has performed at concerts and festivals throughout the Southeast and Europe. Black performs on a cello built for and previously owned by Yo-Yo Ma, the renowned cellist who played at President Obama's recent inauguration.

Pianist Protopopescu began her musical training in her native city of Bucharest, studied extensively throughout Europe and gained international recognition at piano competitions in Europe. Her career includes performances throughout Europe, Asia and North America. Protopopescu is familiar to Trinity Music Academy audiences as a member of the group Contrasts, which has appeared at TMA previously.

Violinist Meyer, a former associate concertmaster of the Charlotte Symphony, is currently concertmaster of the Louisiana Philharmonic and associate concertmaster of the Colorado Music Festival. In addition to performances in numerous chamber music venues throughout the United States, Meyer recently took part in a U.S. State Department/Carnegie Hall-sponsored chamber music tour of Central Asia.

The trio will perform two works by Rachmaninoff, the "Sonata in G Minor, Opus 19" and "Trio Elegiaque in G Minor." The evening will conclude with Brahms' "Trio in C Major, Opus 87" for piano, violin and cello.

Tickets are available at the door, $12 adults, and $6 students, or by calling Trinity United Methodist Church at (910) 576-4186.
