A Taylortown woman died in a four-car accident Saturday night on N.C. 211 in Hoke County near the Moore County line.
Candra Stewart, 30, was killed in the accident that also claimed the life of a Red Springs man and injured five others. John McMillan, 41, died in the accident, which happened about 7:30 p.m.
One of the injured was airlifted by helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, while the other four injured were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Both victims died at the scene.
According to the State Highway Patrol, Stewart was trying to pass a car and apparently sideswiped McMillan's car that was traveling in the opposite direction. Both drivers lost control of their vehicles and hit two other vehicles head-on. McMillan's wife, Kelly, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals, while the two passengers in a car hit by McMillan were transported to Moore Regional. The car that Stewart hit also had two occupants, both of whom were taken to Moore Regional.
The four people transported to Moore Regional suffered nonlife-threatening injuries.
