The Moore County Historical Association, in conjunction with Kirk Tours presents a trip to the 62nd annual plantation tour in Georgetown, S.C., Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4.

A portion of the proceeds of the tour go toward the repair of the Saunders Cabin roof.

The tour, which includes plantations, churches and townhouses in and near Georgetown, features a different group of homes each day. The majority of the plantations and town houses are privately owned and shared for this tour once a year. Houses will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Histories and maps for the day are provided with each ticket. Hosts and hostesses will be happy to answer any questions visitors may have concerning the houses on the tour.

All visitors are requested to wear low-heeled shoes for their own comfort, as well as for the protection of the old floors and rugs. No photographs may be taken inside the homes.

As part of the tour of pre-Revolutionary and antebellum churches, townhouses and plantations, visitors are invited to the Winyah Indigo Society Hall for tea each afternoon. Home-baked goods, local art from the Georgetown Watercolor Society, and books from the Georgetown Historical Society will be available for sale in the hall. The list of houses and other stops on the tours is to be determined.

"For dinner pick out your favorite as you stroll the Georgetown Historic Downtown," says a spokesman. "Local favorites include The River Room, The Rice Paddy, Lands End, Goat Island Grill, and many more."

The tour includes accommodations at the Hampton Inn & Suites located just off the Intercoastal Waterway and adjacent to the Georgetown Landing Marina.
