The O'Neal School boys' basketball team was outscored 5-2 in overtime and fell 45-42 at Cary Christian Tuesday night.
The Falcons (2-5) trailed 21-12 at halftime after being outscored 11-2 in the second quarter but outscored Cary Christian 28-19 in the second half to force overtime.
"We really struggled during that second quarter, but we dug deep and came back strong on the road," said O'Neal head coach Casey Coleman.
Senior John Schoemmell and freshman Jacob Talbert led the Falcons with 12 points apiece, and Talbert grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Senior Corbin O'Donnell finished with eight points and five rebounds, and senior Chris Payton added seven points and quarterbacked the team's comeback.
The O'Neal girls fell 68-19.
Senior Ellen Cowherd scored 16 of the team's 19 points and grabbed four rebounds. Cristina Morcom added eight rebounds and two points for the Lady Falcons (1-6).
The O'Neal teams are back in action Friday hosting Arendell Parrott.
