Pinewild: The Men's Golf Association played a team and individual match on the Holly Course using one best ball on yellow flags, two on white flags and three on red flag holes. Midland: The Ladies Golf Association played on Dec. 3 in a Low Gross and Low Net Tournament. The 18-hole winners were: Gross -- Joanne Rabdau, 86. Net -- Penny Higgins, 73. The 9-hole winners were: Gross -- Bev Braunscheidel, 48. Net -- Linda Parke tied at 36, with Carolyn Crenson, 36. Georgia Snow chipped in on No. 3, Dee Hancock on No. 15 and Penny Higgins on No. 9.
Knollwood: The Sandblasters played on Dec. 8 in a two best balls of the foursome format. The winners: Ron Flock, Doug Toler, Steve Zachary, Frank Griffin, 57; Paul Leach, Don Palmer, Joe Reilly, Blind Draw, 60; Vic Kendall, Bobo Edwards, Dave Petro, Bill Crenson, 61. Ron Flock and Harvey Koonce tied at 40 to win low gross honors. Glen Kendall and Doug Toler tied at 32 for low net. Dick Maderia and Steve Zachary birdied the ninth hole.
Southern Pines: Penny Burke is the Par Seekers' Most Improved Player for 2009, reducing her handicap from 34 to 29. Cathy Murphy is the overall winner of the Members Cup with a score of 282. This is based on the low four net scores of monthly Members Cup tournaments. Ringers and birdies were also awarded in flights. New officers were presented for 2009 with president Jeanice Snyder; vice president Ann Kendall; secretary Dotty Garman; treasurer Bonnie Quesenberry.
Whispering Woods: The Men's Golf Association played on Dec. 9 and the format was one best ball on par fours and fives and two best balls on par three holes. Steve Luckhaus, Joe Matejka, Bud Henty and Bill Woodruff scored 67.
On Dec. 7, the Men's Golf Association played in threesomes with one low net on the front nine and two low nets on the back nine. Steve Luckhaus, Ken Pomeroy and Gaylord Maines won with 89.
