Eagles Take Three From Mustangs

North Moore was swept in three games by visiting East Montgomery in its Yadkin Valley 1A Conference basketball openers Tuesday.
North Moore's varsity girls' team fell to 3-3 on the season with a 62-51 loss to the rival Lady Eagles, who improved to 2-4 overall.
The Lady Mustangs turned the ball over nine times in the first quarter alone and trailed 28-25 at halftime, before being outscored 33-27 in the second half.
Nuquinda Christian led East Montgomery with 22 points, Nicole Smith added 17 and Brandy Rush finished with 14.
Hillary Walters was North Moore's leading scorer with 14 points, Shakorya Brower and Tashonna Farmer added 10 apiece and Jalisa Davis and Katelyn Sheffield each finished with nine points. Brower and Davis both fouled out of the game early in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Mustangs finished with 17 turnovers and made 13 of 21 free throws. East Montgomery made 13 of 23 free throws.
North Moore's varsity boys' team fell to 1-5 on the season with a 55-39 defeat.
The Mustangs fell behind 22-13 early in the seacond quarter but went on a 6-0 run to close the gap to 22-19 with 4:45 remaining in the first half. But East Montgomery answered with an 8-2 run to close the half ahead 30-21.
The Eagles (4-2) led 43-33 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Mustangs 12-6 in the final period.
Dominique Harris led East Montgomery with 20 points, including 10 in the third quarter, and Guridon Mabe added 10 points. For North Moore, Corbin Brock led the way with 12 points, John Spivey added 11 points and Xavier Scotton finished with seven.
East Montgomery won the jayvee boys' game 48-32. The Eagles do not field a jayvee girls' team.
North Moore is back in action Friday at Chatham Central.
