Miss Greater Sandhills Emmy McLean will team up with Wendy's of Aberdeen to host a "Princess for a Day" party Sunday, Dec. 13 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Girls ages 3-12 are invited to have a late lunch with McLean and her Carolina Princess, Madison Hadaway, and then to make their own princess crowns. The cost is $10, which includes the lunch, the crown and supplies and an autographed photo of Miss Greater Sandhills.

The Miss Greater Sandhills pageant is a preliminary pageant to Miss North Carolina and Miss America, the largest provider of educational scholarships for young women in the world.

As a contestant in the Miss North Carolina pageant in Raleigh next June, McLean is an ambassador for Children's Miracle Network, the official community service campaign for the Miss America Organization. Each contestant in the Miss N.C. pageant must raise a minimum of $250 for the program, but McLean has a much loftier goal than that amount.

North Carolina has three CMN hospitals: Duke Children's Hospital, in Durham, Levine Children's Hospital, in Charlotte, and University Health System of Eastern Carolina's Children's Hospital, in Greenville. All the money raised by McLean and other Miss N.C. contestants will stay right here in North Carolina and help the children and their families who have to use these three hospitals.

Parents of children who would like to attend the party are asked to preregister by Friday, Dec. 11, by calling Anne McLean at (910) 315-1962 or Natalie Hadaway (after 3 p.m.) at (910) 315-1764. They may also e-mail McLean at annermclean@hotmail.com. Interested donors will also be able to make donations to CMN at Wendy's on the date of the party.

The Miss Greater Sandhills Pageant organization and McLean are also working on additional fundraisers to benefit CMN and the scholarship pageant organization. Those interested in helping to raise dollars for CMN or the organization or in booking Emmy for an appearance can contact Kaye Fritz, business manager for the Miss Greater Sandhills organization, at (910) 690-8696 or fritzkk@windstream.net or Jan Spivey, executive director, at (910) 639-7108 or diamondent@nc.rr.com.
