I Didn't Do It Alone

I was honored as the 2009 Moore County Medallion winner for volunteer services for my work with Moore Alliance Nourishing Neighbors, Amen! (MANNA!).

I would like to clarify some information in the article that discussed the Moore County top volunteers of the year. The idea of the mobile soup kitchen was attributed solely to me. However, Sue Kjellsen was the originator of the concept, not me. The original group of people, including me, who met with Kjellsen developed that idea, which resulted in the formation of MANNA!

Also, the article sounds like I alone initiated the project in 2005 and enlisted the assistance of 22 churches and organizations to make MANNA! a reality. It took many people, including the MANNA! Board of Trustees, our staff and volunteers to accomplish what MANNA! is today. Without this team of people, MANNA! could not operate and could not have achieved feeding more than 600 people at our seven serving sites each week.

I am honored to have received the Medallion Award, but I am humbled when I think of all the people who work tirelessly for MANNA! to feed the hungry in Moore County.

If you would like to become involved with MANNA!, call (910) 315-1150. Contributions may be sent to MANNA!, P.O. Box 1081, Southern Pines, NC 28388.
