Families who prefer fresh farm produce have an opportunity this month to become charter members of the new Sandhills Farm to Table Cooperative.
Charter memberships will be accepted during a two-week period beginning Sunday, Dec. 6, according to Fenton Wilkinson, general manager of the cooperative. This opportunity will continue through Dec. 21.
Farm to Table is an innovative local food project involving local farmers, workers and consumers with all parties sharing ownership in the new business.
Under the arrangement, local farmers will grow vegetables and fruit for subscription members, ensuring delivery of farm-fresh produce and, at the same time, preserving farms and open land and keeping local dollars circulating in Moore County. The concept is likened to another popular food distribution structure, the multi-farm CSA (community-supported agriculture).
