Police Briefs: Man Charged With Shooting at Deputies

A Southern Pines man fired shots at Moore County sheriff's deputies Saturday night while they were attempting to arrest him on drug charges following a brief standoff.
Hubert Monroe, 51, of 1410 North Ridge St., was taken into custody after multiple shots were fired from inside his residence, according to a press release.
Monroe is charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, resisting public officer, second degree trespassing and an order for arrest for harassing phone calls. He was jailed and bail set at $260,000, according to the release.
The Southern Pines Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol assisted during the incident.
Prescription Pills: A Southern Pines man was arrested in the parking lot of a pharmacy Friday and charged with distributing controlled prescription pills.
Robert Lee Robinson, 57, of 505 West Vermont Ave., faces felony trafficking in opium/heroin by sell, felony trafficking in opium/heroin by delivery, felony trafficking in opium/heroin by possession, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule III controlled substance, felony sell a schedule III controlled substance and felony deliver a schedule III controlled substance, according to a press release.
Officers from the Moore County Sheriff's Office narcotics and select enforcement units conducted the investigation and arrest. Officers seized 70 Lorcet pills from Robinson in the parking lot of a Southern Pines pharmacy.
Robinson was jailed and his bail set at $50,000.
Burglary: A Carthage man was arrested on charges related to a robbery that took place Monday in the Robbins area.
Anthony Duncan, 22, of 169 Carolina Lakes Road, Carthage, was charged with first-degree burglary, larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm, according to a press release.
Officers with the Moore County Sheriff's Office arrested Duncan today after receiving a report from a man in the Robbins area that his home had been entered and items taken from the residence.
Duncan was jailed and his bail set at $25,000.
