Volunteer Celebration Set for Thursday at Weymouth
Linda Hubbard, volunteer coordinator, Moore County Schools, announces that the sixth annual Eileen Vansant Volunteer of the Year Celebration will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities.
The award was created in 2004 to honor Vansant, who was a dedicated volunteer in Moore County Schools and who was the recipient of the 2003 Governor's Award for volunteer service. She also won the 2004 Mary Jane Kistler Volunteer Award given by the North Carolina Association for Community Education to an individual who is an outstanding volunteer and has made a significant impact on the promotion and advancement of community education.
A volunteer in Moore County Schools for five years, Vansant passed away April 25, 2004. She was an educator and a principal in Pennsylvania and New Jersey schools for 39 years before retiring to Southern Pines.
The winner will be selected from 20 winners of the Volunteer of the Month competition in Moore County Schools, sponsored by St. Joseph of the Pines Health System and WYBE TV Channel 3.
