Falcons Win in Volleyball, Tennis

The O'Neal volleyball team stayed undefeated with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-21 win Thursday over visiting St. David's .
An injury to stater Caroline McHenry in the second game forced the Falcons to shuffle their lineup and showcase the versatility of the roster.
Katherine Kelly moved from outside hitter to middle blocker, and Katie Tighe played back row middle and KellyAnn Miller played front row right side hitter.
Falcon coach Kendall Harper said her team, now 2-0 on the season, didn't miss a beat after McHenry went down.
Alex DiMaggo had nine kills, six digs, Ellen Cowherd had five kills, Meri-Liz Faulkner had five kills and three service aces.
Overall the team had 13 service aces.
The Falcons hope to have McHenry back on Aug. 26 when they travel to play Union Pines. The Falcons (2-0) defeated the Vikings (0-3) in the season opener for both teams.
O'Neal Tennis Swats St. David's
After dropping the first two singles matches, the O'Neal girls tennis team roared back to defeat St. David's, 7-2.
Winners for the Falcons included: Senior Virgina Scarpa, Amelia Schirmer, Victoria Scarpa and Marry Garner in singles. Katie Jenkins and Brianna Ek paired to win No. 1 doubles. The Scarpa sisters earned a win at No. 2 doubles and Schirmer and Greyson Keel completed the Falcons sweep in doubles. Jordan Fisher earned a win for O'Neal in an exhibition match.
The Falcons (1-0) will travel to High Point on Tuesday to play Westchester Country Day.
St. David's dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
