Both the Pinecrest varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams defeated the homestanding Vikings Thursday evening at Union Pines' Bob Ward Gymnasium in a cross-county rivalry doubleheader.

Led by strong showings from junior Addy George and senior Paige Horne, the Patriots took the night cap in a 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 straight set sweep in the non-conference contest.

George racked up 21 kills, while Horne had 15 service points, 12 assists and five kills on the night. After a tough loss to the Triton Hawks in the season opener, Pinecrest has put together two consecutive straight-set victories and has a 2-1 record on the year.

The Vikes are now 0-3 on the young season. Sophomore Crystal Hicks was solid for Union Pines in a losing cause, leading her team with eight digs and seven kills.

In Thursday's first match of the all-Moore County bill, the Pinecrest jayvee girls earned a 25-13, 25-16 sweep over the Viking junior varsity squad.
