The Given Memorial Library and Tufts Archives announces a new and exciting series of intimate events that will engage the community in historic and literary activities hosted by friends of the Library and Archives.

The first of the monthly "Heritage Highlights and Literary Lessons" will commence in September. There will be various ticket prices for each event with proceeds to benefit the library and archives.

The event schedule includes: "Twilight Cruise of Lake Pinehurst" (September), "Dining in the Archives with Ghosts of Pinehurst Past" (October), "The Book Review" (November), "Winter Sleigh-Ride on Lake Pinehurst" (December), "Pinalia Holly Winter Dinner" (January), "Wine of the Time" (February), "Hats and Afternoon Tea in the Village" (March), "Cake and Croquet" (April), "Given on the Green" (May), "Historic No. 2" (June) and "Midnight Golf" (July).

"It's an extraordinary program and there's definitely something for everyone," said Audrey Moriarty, executive director.

"I've been wanting to recreate the 'Midnight Golf' match once played by Donald Ross for quite some time, and this is the perfect opportunity to make that happen, thanks to the graciousness of Peggy Kirk Bell and Kelly Miller, as well as all the other participating hosts."

The hosts of each event determine the location and specifics of their respective parties, keeping a common literary or historical Pinehurst theme.

"With the help of the Archives, I was able to find a variety of unique historical details and artifacts to include in the Pinalia Holly Winter Dinner," said hostess Lucille Buck.

"We are thrilled to be able to help raise money for the library and archives through such a delightful evening that will give a glimpse back to the early years of Pinehurst."

The public is encouraged to attend as many events as they would like, and can make reservations through the Given Memorial Library.

"Tickets are limited, so guests should purchase promptly to ensure space in what is sure to be the most enlightening and exciting program of the year," said Moriarty.

Tickets for the Heritage Highlights and Literary Lessons can be purchased in person at the Given Memorial Library, or by phone at (910) 295-6086.

Those interested in participating as a host of one of the various programs should contact Brandee Bryant at (910) 295-6086 or Bryant@tufts archives.org.

All proceeds benefit the Given Memorial Library and Tufts Archives, the Pinehurst History Museum, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community with the very best library services and preservation of the unique history of Pinehurst.
