Wally Stefany, a long-time contributor to this column, garners another Limerick Laureate honor with these verses:
My golf game is something to see;
It's indeed a reflection of me.
My drives lack for heft
But lean Liberally Left,
A redeeming virtue to me.
My golf game is something to see;
On the green no one ever beats me.
I can manage a cough
That'll throw a putt off,
And I take home a buck, two or three!
Wally Stefany is originally from Allentown, Pa. An experienced writer, he was employed by an area newspaper as a general assignment writer, then feature columnist.
Wally also worked for the federal government in the Civil Aeronautics Board and the Department of Transportation. Long-time residents of the Sandhills, he and his wife, Irene, reside in Belle Meade.
Kathleen Peterson, of West End, knows the sting of jealous rivals.
My golf game is something to see.
I evade every sand trap and tree.
I think I'm fantastic
(Though friends are sarcastic).
Oh how they must all envy me!
Hal Hudson, of Seven Lakes, astonishes his teaching pro.
My golf game is something to see.
Drives are bad from the very first tee.
My fairway shots stink
Putts -- I never can sink.
The pro says my game is "skill free."
Carthage's Ken Layton likes experienced balls.
My golf game is something to see.
Though some think it's petty of me,
I start with one ball,
An abundance of gall;
I'm a winner to come back with three.
In Pinehurst, Mary Lynn Carubba faces a ruthless gallery.
My golf game is something to see,
Best viewed from behind a wide tree.
Many shots go astray,
As bystanders all pray
I'll be stung by a large killer bee!
Jean Matyas of Anchorage, Alaska, is thankful for the short season.
My golf game is something to see.
I see people laughing at me
As I whiff when I swing,
An embarrassing thing
To shoot 10 on an easy par three!
Pinehurst's Bob Brown plays in the wee small hours.
My golf game is something to see
Score albatross, eagle, birdie.
But it's all in my head
It's not real, instead
It's all via Wii on TV.
Kirk and Shari Hasenmueller's game borders on Shakespearean.
My golf game is something to see,
It has drama and rich comedy.
There's laughter and cheers,
And sadness and tears,
All before the ball leaves the first tee!
