James Monroe Vaughn, 85, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Rex Healthcare, Raleigh.
He was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Moore County, the son of the late Raymond Thomas and Lessie (Hall) Vaughn. After graduating from high school, James attended and graduated from Brevard College before enlisting in the United States Army. After serving for two years he returned to Raleigh where he attended N.C. State, focusing on architecture and engineering. He then attended Kings Business College where he earned his bachelor's degree in business. He worked as an accountant with Aeroglide Corporation for many years and then worked with the Southern Baptist Association, from which he retired. James enjoyed working with his church and especially enjoyed his church family.
His survivors include a sister, Darleen Vaughn Haithcock, of Winston Salem; niece, Victoria Haithcock McConnell, of Mount Holly; nephews, Raymond L. Vaughn Jr., of Robbins, Doyle M. Vaughn, of Asheboro, and W. Joe Vaughn, of Carthage; 10 great-nephews and nieces and 13 great-great nephews and nieces. He was preceded by his parents, and brother, Raymond Vaughn Sr..
Services were held Tuesday, April 28, at 11 a.m. at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh. Burial followed at 3 p.m. at Red Branch Baptist Cemetery, 1748 Old River Road, Carthage.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church or Hospice of Wake County, 1300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC.
