Addor

A missionary mass meeting for the Sanford District of A.M.E. Zion churches will be held at 10 a.m. this Saturday at Spaudling Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Taylortown.

This is sponsored by Y.A.M.S. A prayer breakfast will also be held. Dr. Ocie Brown is in charge.

The Addor Community Center is forming a softball team for boys and girls this summer. You do not have to live in the community to participate.

The board members of the Addor Community Center invite everyone to plan to attend the first-ever "Black-White Banquet" at 7 p.m. July 1 at the Days Inn on U.S. 1 in Southern Pines.

Tickets are $25. Contact Gregory Savannah, the chairman, or the Rev. Fred Goins Jr., vice chairman. Everyone is asked to dress in black and white. There will be a lot of great fun and fellowship..

The community was saddened to learn of the death of Willie Jane Lee. She lived in Laurinburg. Funeral services were held Monday at Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

New Hope Christian Ministries at 704 Harris St., where the pastor is Elder Brenda Brown, holds regular worship services on the first through fourth Sundays of the month at 11 a.m. Sunday School is held at 10 a.m.

St. Ruth United Church of God in West End, where the pastor is Elderess Lillian Kearns, holds worship services on the second and fourth Sundays at 11:30 a.m.

A prayer meeting is held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by Bible study at 7 p.m.

Stoney Hill Church in Carthage, where the pastor is Elder Al Wilson, will have its deacon and trustee anniversary at 3 p.m. this Sunday. The Rev. Larry Ray, pastor of Body Of Christ will be the guest speaker.

Holy Temple Church in Carthage, where the pastor is Elder A.W. Moore, will have its service Sunday. Elder Moore will speak at the morning service. Apostle Ronnie Moore, pastor of Kingdom Builders City of Refuge International Ministries, will be the guest speaker for the 5 p.m. service. Dinner will be served afterward.

Congratulations go out to Titus Jermaine "TJ" Moore who completed law enforcement school April 21. He is the son of Elder Allen Moore and Grace Moore, of Eastwood.

The Rev. Wade is holding a community Bible study from 7 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

The Missionary Department of St. Peters thanks Minister Tina Harris for the wonderful revival last week.

St. Peters will have a "Women's Celebration" starting with a breakfast at 9 a.m. this Saturday at the Days Inn on U.S. 1 in Southern Pines. Mother Mahalia Williams will bring the "spiritual stimulus package." Evangelist Anita Owens-Scott will deliver the "bailout" message at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the church. Dinner will be served by the men in fellowship hall afterward.

Christway Deliverance Church will have a yard sale Saturday. The church is also offering childhood intervention classes for children ages 2-5. Classes will be presented on a small scale, according to each child's attention and interest level. Parents must be present.

The St. John Missionary Department thanks Elder Darlene Purcell for a wonderful revival last week.

Bible study is held every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Macedonia and at 7:30 p.m. at Fletcher's Chapel. Pleasant Hill holds Bible study at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Fletcher's Chapel will celebrate its pastor's anniversary June 24.

The annual Evergreen Cemetery cleanup will be held from 7 a.m. to noon May 24. Please bring your own tools. Everyone is urged to come out and help.

Funeral services will be held Monday for Willie Lee at Jones Chapel in Laurinburg.

Rising Star Chapter No. 584 of the Order of Eastern Star will meet May 6. W.M. Kelly asks that all members please attend.

Mount Pleasant Church welcomed Toby and Linda Scott as new members this week. The church is excited to see the membership and the talent base growing.

Next Sunday, the church will host movie night at 6 o'clock. The movie "Left Behind" will be shown, and refreshments will be served after the movie. "Left Behind" deals with the day of rapture and the events in the days afterward. Everyone is invited to join in this special showing and discussion.

May will be another busy month for Mount Pleasant Church. May 10 is Mother's Day; May 17 is homecoming and memorial day for the church; May 24 is Memorial Day for our nation; and May 31 is the business conference.

The date for poker party for the Garnet Lobelias has been changed from May 9 to May 8 at 6 p.m. The group has never played a game of poker, but it should be a very fun social evening. For more information, contact Queen Sunny at 245-4747 or Princess Janet at 245-4741.

Please take a moment to remember our military members and their families with positive thoughts and prayers. With many of them spread from all four corners of the world, any time of the year can be difficult for them and their families.

Pastor Larry Ray, of Body of Christ on Lemon Springs Road, will be the guest speaker at Stony Hill Free Will Baptish Church at 3 p.m. this Sunday. The church pastor is the Rev. Al Wilson.

Taylortown

The 4-H after-school program will be helping youths with preparation for the end-of-grade testing. If your child needs tutoring, please call Rose Highland-Sharpe at 295-0013 or Jermaine Bright at 528-9512. Professor Bobby Allen will assist with tutoring this spring, too.

Jermaine is the lead tutor and after-school coordinator at the Taylor House center, which is on Main Street across from Spaulding Chapel. The center is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 until 6 pm. Linda Gore, Moore County 4-H program coordinator, can be reached at 947-3188. These services are free and open to elementary-age and older children.

The Rev. David Levine is working with our community's Cub Scout Den 718 and fire/rescue program at the Taylor House. The fire and rescue program meets at 7 p.m. every other Tuesday. The next meeting will be May 12. The Cub Scouts meet at 7 p.m. every Thursday.

The Rev. Levine is working on several fund raising events to support the efforts of the fire and rescue program. For more information, call 461-0470.

Spaulding Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church will have "You Name the Price Sale" tonight (Wednesday) and Thursday from 5 until 7:30. The sale will be held in the fellowship hall. Clothes, household items, books, toys and more will be available.

Proceeds benefit the "Miss Spaulding Chapel" queen contestants. The pastor is the Rev. Oscar Rush. The coordinators are Doris Lee and Barbara McKnight. All are welcome.

The Rev. Angela Headen Davis will be the speaker at Mount Olive A.M.E. Zion Church in Carthage at 7 p.m. this Friday for its revival service. The Rev. Davis is the assistant pastor at Mount Olive. She is the daughter of Luther and Shirley Headen, of Taylortown. Hats off to Angela for her great work at Mt. Olive!

Stone's Chapel Church in Carthage will have its annual women's conference this Friday and Saturday. The Rev. Carolyn Radcliff, of Taylortown, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Angela Headen Davis will be the speaker at 11 a.m. this Saturday. Missionary Frances Benymon will be the speaker at 7:30 Saturday night The theme is "Women Working Together to Make a Change." Overseer William Russell and Evangelist Carolyn Russell invite everyone to these services.

Christ Way Deliverance Church on U.S. 15-501 in Eastwood will have a yard sale Saturday morning. The pastor is Elder E. Nathaniel Jackson. All are welcome.

Special thanks to Elder Jermaine Richardson for a dynamic message that was given at the Galilee Missionary Baptist church anniversary recently. The Rev. Nabors, the pastor at Galilee, thanks everyone for attending the service.

God's House of Prayer Ministry will have a pre-anniversary program for Pastor Mary Kelly at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday. The guest speaker will be Elderess Mary Hooker, of Sandy Grove Church in Vass. The program will be at the church at 205 Pats Road in Vass. Everyone is welcome to attend.

God's House of Prayer Ministry holds worship services on the first and third Sunday at 11 a.m. Sunday School is held every Sunday at 10 a.m. Bible study is held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Intercessory prayer is held every Saturday at 8 a.m.

Highland Baptist Church on U.S. 1 holds Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. every Sunday. Services are also held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

A Saturday night prayer meeting is held from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Come if you have a special need and would like others to pray with you. Or you can also call the prayer line at 693-PRAY.

Highland Church has started a new Care Ministry Program. Volunteers are needed at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. They will be out in full force in the area sharing the good news. Anyone interested in joining can call the church and leave a message for Jane.

The church is having a Marvelous May Sunday School Campaign. Members are asked to bring a family member, co-worker or friend to church. You could win gift cards throughout the month.

A mother/daughter event will be held Saturday, May 10. Sister Vaughn and Tonya Thomas are now taking the names of those who plan to attend the special event. You can call the church office if you plan to attend.

The Notes of Praise will be practicing at 5:15 p.m. this Sunday for Mother's Day. All group members need to attend this practice.

On May 12-15, God's Vision of Praise Ministry will have a Holy Ghost revival. Services will begin at 7:30 nightly. There will be different speakers every night.

God's Vision of Praise Ministry holds a worship service every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. except on any fifth Sunday of the month. Bible study is held at 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
