The Friends of the Given Memorial Library and Tufts Archives announce that they will host the popular Pinehurst Promenade Historic Home Tour Sunday, May 31, from noon to 5 p.m.

"It has been 10 years since the last home tour, focusing specifically on the historic cottages in the village of Pinehurst, and our committee is excited to be offering this unique opportunity to the community once again," said Nancy Geddes, event co-chair.

There will be six homes on the tour, along with the Magnolia Inn, which will be serving iced tea on its veranda to ticketed guests.

In addition to the public tour on Sunday, there will be an exclusive preview evening of three special homes the night before from 6 to 8 p.m., including hors d'oeuvres and beverages.

Each home will have hostesses providing historic facts on the home, before-and-after photos and special entertainment.

Pinehurst Promenade homes include: Halfway House (circa 1919); Hale Cottage (circa 1895); Mistletoe Cottage (circa 1895); Concord Cottage (circa 1895); Silva Nidus Cottage (circa 1921); and Suffolk Cottage (circa 1921).

The three participating homes for the preview evening are Tremont Cottage (circa 1897), the old Village Hall site, now Hinton Cottage, and Fernleigh Cottage (circa 1914).

The library and archives will be open that Sunday with volunteers available for questions, maps and tickets.

There will also be several unique silent auction items available at the preview on Saturday night, including a round of golf for four at Pinehurst No. 8 and lunch with popular local writer, Jim Dodson.

Tickets for the Promenade are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the event and can be purchased at the Given Memorial Library, the Given Book Shop in Olmsted Village and The Country Bookshop in Southern Pines.

Preview tickets are $50, and space is limited. The preview ticket includes access to the next day's Promenade.

All proceeds benefit the Given Memorial Library and Tufts Archives, the Pinehurst History Museum, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community with the best library services and preservation of the unique history of Pinehurst.
