The Pinecrest boys finished first and the girls were a close second in Thursday's Mid-Southeastern Conference quad track meet held at Hoke County.

The Patriot boys recorded 79 points followed by Seventy-First, 72, Hoke, 61 and Douglas Byrd, 32. Firsts for the Pats went to Dylan Gaffney (discus), Harron Carson (110 hurdles), Aaron Shamberger (400), Scott Whitecar (800), Craig Baggett (1,600) and the 1,600 meter relay quartet consisting of Shamberger, Carson, Raphael Alston and Brandon Shaw.

Ceci Weibert won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles for the Pinecrest girls. But, Seventy-First still out-pointed the Patriots 71 to 69.5. Next were Byrd with 42 points and Hoke with 29.

Other firsts for the Patriots girls were earned by Katana Lemelin (1,600) and the 3,200 meter relay team made up of Olivia Hernandez, Kasey Spry, Lauren McDowell and Courtney Bartlett.

Pinecrest's next quad meet is scheduled for Thursday at Reid Ross Classical School.

Last Saturday at the Bojangles Apex Relays, Lexie Schustrom broke the Pinecrest record in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:07.9. She finished fifth in the race won by Carolyn Baskir of East Chapel Hill with a time of 4:58.5.
