Perry Magness Green Jr., 91, of Southern Pines, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
He was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Nashville, Tenn., to Perry M. and Nancy (Cope) Green. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mamie Lois, a sister and a brother. He moved to the Southern Pines area from Birmingham, Mich., in 1968 and worked as a manufacturer's representative until retiring in the mid-1970s. He was a past president of the Whispering Pines Country Club and was an active contributing member of Brownson Presbyterian Church. He was a good Boy Scout, a good ACC fan, and an average but enthusiastic golfer.
He is survived by son, Stephen (Lorraine) Green of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; daughter, Nancy (Tom) Rea, of Petoskey, Mich; grandchildren, Scott (Lindsey) Rea, Colorado Springs, Colo., Stephanie (Michael) Kirchner, of Denver, Colo., and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the Chapel at Belle Meade in Southern Pines Wednesday, April 29 at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions in Perry's name may be directed to Brownson Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines.
