O'Neal fifth- and sixth-grade students, Dana Averbook, Harrison Moyle, Emma Moore, Annie Futrell, Brian Subin, Tomi Lawal, Nick Manning and Haleigh Conner, were nominated and accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum.

Nominated by O'Neal faculty and parents, students were given the opportunity to join other students in Washington, D.C., March 9-14, to study leadership and explore the monuments and institutions in the D.C. area. Small group discussions and exercises were conducted to experience firsthand how successful leaders develop strategies, make decisions, build consensus, and foster change.

Emma Moore, daughter of Dargan Moore and Janet Trent of Sanford, and Harrison Moyle, son of Dr. Henry Moyle and Dr. Theresa Wen, of Pinehurst, chose to participate in the Washington, D.C., program. Haleigh Conner, daughter of David and Kathy Conner, of Pinehurst, will travel to Austria this summer with the People to People program.
