O'Neal School Holds Summer Camps

The O'Neal School has opened registration for four different camps this summer.
Falcon Day Camp
Falcon Day Camp, scheduled from June 15-26 and July 13-24, at The O'Neal School offers children ages 5 to 13 opportunities covering a variety of quality experiences, both entertaining and educational. Campers will enjoy a full range of activities, including arts and crafts, science explorations, field trips, games, swimming and sports. Campers are always under the supervision of a camp counselor as they rotate from activities and teachers during the day. The two-week sessions are from Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Theater Arts Camp
This introduction to theater arts two-week summer camp, set for June 15-26, is designed to bring Shakespeare to life with lively activities providing students with a fun look at the basics of acting and scene work while exploring the works of Shakespeare.
Specifically for rising fifth- through ninth-grade students, camp instruction includes activities designed to familiarize students with theater basics, improve vocal skills, build improvisation skills, teach students the fundamentals of interpreting scenes and monologues and encourage greater self-confidence. Instruction will focus on and be drawn from the texts of "Romeo and Juliet," "Much Ado About Nothing" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
The camp will culminate with a workshop performance. The two-week sessions are from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon in the theater of the new Activities Center.
The instructor, Michael J. Norman, The O'Neal School's drama director, was a 2008 Globe Scholar -- studying active approaches to the teaching of Shakespeare at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London for four weeks. He has also participated in several other workshops including a two-day "Hands-On Shakespeare" workshop co-sponsored by the English-Speaking Union and the NC Shakespeare Festival.
Fun with Math
Enjoy math games and puzzles, while learning problem-solving techniques and developing critical thinking skills at Fun with Math camp July 27-31. For rising second-, third- and fourth-grade students, the camp instructor is Kathy Nester, second-grade teacher for The O'Neal School. The week-long session is Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m.
O'Neal Volleyball Camp
July 29-31 -- For rising sixth- through eighth-grade students, The O'Neal volleyball camp is designed to provide campers of all ability levels a rewarding and enjoyable experience. The camp instructor is O'Neal Varsity Volleyball Coach, Kendall Harper. The three-day session, which is Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31, is from 10 a.m. to noon. The camp is for 15 participants only, and the deadline to register is May 11.
