Marcia Hunnefield Van Roosen, 68, of Pinehurst, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.
Funeral services will be held at Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst, Thursday, April 30, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Larry Ellis officiating. Interment will be at the family plot in Manchester, Mass.
Mrs. Van Roosen was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to the late William and Marie Hunnefield. She graduated from Newton High School, Newton, Mass., and the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Mass. She was an accomplished artist and specialized in rug hooking where she served on a number of local chapters in New England as well as president of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists. Her designs won many national awards, and she taught classes both in New England and in Pinehurst.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, Steven Vantine, of Abington, Mass., and Nicolas Vantine, of Sandwich, Mass.; a daughter, Judy Vantine, of East Falmouth, Mass.; stepchildren, Col. Hugh Van Roosen, of Fort Bragg, Laurie Clarke, of Sandy, Ore., and Christine Van Roosen, of Atlanta, Ga. as well as 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
