Falcons Record Two Shutout Wins in Soccer

After back-to-back losses the O'Neal girls soccer team ended the week on a high note thanks to solid defense and timely offense.
The Falcons blanked Harrell's Christian Academy, 4-0 on Thursday.
They followed that win up with a 2-0 win in overtime against Cape Fear Academy.
Against Harrell's Ellen Hudgins scored two goals and added two assists. Both goals came in the first half of the game as the Falcons opened a 2-0 lead midway through the half. Abbey Dahl and Madelyn Davis scored second-half goals.
Goalie Cristina Morcum stopped four shots to earn the shutout.
Against Cape Fear Dahl scored two unassisted goals in overtime to help the Falcons improve to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in the Cape Fear Independent Conference.
Morcum stopped eight shots against Cape Fear to earn the shutout.
The Falcons will play three games this week.
They travel to Village Christian, Fayetteville Academy on Monday and Tuesday and then return home Thursday for a 4:45 p.m. game with Fayetteville Christian.
Tennis Finishes Strong Week
This past week the Falcons went 3-1 in matches, losing only to state championship contender Cape Fear Academy on Friday.
Thursday, the Falcons eked out a 5-4 win over Westchester Country Day.
Against WCD, the Falcons took a 3-2 lead into the finals singles match of the day.
Falcon Ping Virojveerakul defeated Chris Lewis 7-6 (4), 6-4 in a match that lasted more than two hours to give the Falcons a 4-2 lead entering doubles.
Needing only one win in the three doubles matches to secure the victory, the Falcon duo of Evan Davies and Daniel McCall delivered, easily defeating Will James and Brian Thomas, 8-0.
Other Falcon singles' match winners included: Corbin O'Donnell, Matthew Friesen, and Davies.
In and exhibition match Mark Pracht and Robert Carroll (ON) defeated Chris Lewis and Luke Vandeplancke 6-2.
Westchester moved to 6-3 with the loss.
"We've been practicing for two months, and until Tuesday we'd had only two matches," said head coach Don Woodfield said. "Our kids are happy and excited to be out there and compete."
This week the Falcons (4-2) are scheduled to play four more matches in four days.
