Blanks Honored

Sarah Jane Blanks, daughter of Ramsey and Elizabeth Blanks, of Southern Pines, was among 65 students honored Wednesday, April 15, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with the university's most prestigious academic, service and leadership awards.

Blanks was the recipient of the Kenneth C. Royall Award, given to the senior Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet who demonstrates excellence in scholarship, leadership and officership.

Chancellor Holden Thorp presided at the annual Chancellor's Awards ceremony, in which Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Bernadette Gray-Little presented academic awards, and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Margaret Jablonski presented service and leadership awards.

Dean's List

Nora Katlyn Beauchamp, of Southern Pines, was recently named to the dean's list at Montreat College.

Montreat College is a Christian liberal arts institution with its main campus in Montreat.

UNC List

Brett Baggett, of Pinebluff, made the Dean's List for the fall semester at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Baggett is a freshman at UNC and a 2008 graduate of Pinecrest High School.

He is currently studying business and economics, earning a 3.93 GPA.

His parents are Craig and Joan Baggett of Pinebluff.

Scholarship

Gardner-Webb University announces that Brian Thomas Hayes has been awarded a presidential fellows scholarship to attend Gardner-Webb University.

Hayes is the son of Kevin and Susan Hayes, of Whispering Pines. He is a senior at Union Pines High School.

Gardner-Webb University is a private coeducational, regional university with an enrollment of 3,800.

Located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Gardner-Webb is affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
