Weymouth Finalists Concert Held

The Young Musicians Festival Finalists' Concert was held Sunday, March 22, in the Great Room at Weymouth.

The vision of Amelia E. Moz in the early 1980s, the festival has continued to be an annual Weymouth event for aspiring musicians in their pursuit of musical excellence. The primary objective is to audition for professional musicians who provide instructional critiques of each performance ending with 12 finalists selected for the concert.

The judges for the 2009 festival were Dr. Joseph di Piazza and Dr. Fabian Lopez, from the School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The finalists were:

n Division I: Tristyn Murphy, voice; Caroline Freeman, piano; Joseph Melvin, piano and honorable mention Jessica Free.

n Division II: Nakita Chintalapudi, piano; Nainisha Chintalapudi, piano; Mallory Hayes, violin; and honorable mentions Doug Harrison, piano; Alex Kennedy, guitar; and Brenna Flanagan, violin.

n Division III finalists: Thomas Banks, guitar; Chase Johnson, cello; Kamaira Philips, voice; Emily Moore, piano; Kaitlyn Johnson, violin; and honorable mentions, Alex Abell, piano and Sam Strobel, piano.

Participating teachers were: Ruth Sinclair, Sue Aceves, Danny Infantino,Susan Grzesnikowski, Valerie Stancik, Becky Anliker, Karen Collins, Leslie Alperin, Catherine Charlton, Dr. Doris Powers and Eric Pritchard.

Accompanists were Darlene Skinner and Sandy Tremblay.

Young Musician Festival committees members were Sue Aceves, Shelly Johnson, and Elaine M. Sills, chairman.
