The Sunrise Theater will present the feature film, "Two Lovers," through Monday, April 27.

Written, directed, and produced by James Gray ("We Own the Night"), the film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Gwyneth Paltrow, Vinessa Shaw, Isabella Rossellini, and Samantha Ivers. The film shows on weekdays at 7:30 and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 and 7:30. This romantic drama is rated R and runs for 1 hour and 50 minutes.

The following summary is provided on the film's Web site: Leonard (Phoenix), a charismatic but troubled young man, moves back into his childhood home following a recent heartbreak. While recovering under the watchful eye of his parents, Leonard meets two women in quick succession: Michelle (Paltrow), a mysterious and beautiful neighbor who is exotic and out-of-place in Leonard's staid world, and Sandra (Shaw), the lovely and caring daughter of a businessman who is buying out his family's dry-cleaning business.

Leonard becomes deeply infatuated by Michelle, who seems poised to fall for him, but is having a self-destructive affair with a married man. At the same time, mounting pressure from his family pushes him toward committing to Sandra. Leonard is forced to make an impossible decision -- between the impetuousness of desire and the comfort of love -- or risk falling back into the darkness that nearly killed him.

The historical Sunrise Theater is located at 250 NW Broad Street in Southern Pines. Tickets for the evening shows are $7 for adults, $6 for matinees. Refreshments, including beer and wine, are available.

All Sunrise Theater movies are commercial-free.
