The North Moore Mustangs continued their winning ways Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Conference foe East Montgomery.
The Mustangs' pressure paid off with 24:50 remaining in the first half when Jazmin Median found Christa Minor near the Eagle goal. Minor's shot from close range beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later Chloe Donaldson took a pass from Ester Pascal and made it 2-0 Mustangs.
The Eagles cut the margin in half with a late first-half goal by Brianna Turner.
The Eagles pressured the Mustang defense to start the second half, but the Mustangs were able to keep the Eagles from getting the tying goal, and then answered with one of their own to make it 3-1.
With 13:24 left in the game, when Donaldson took a pass from Abigail Avalos and beat the keeper with a low, line-drive shot.
"This was a good win for us," North Moore head coach James Horwath said. "Christa Minor scored on her second game back from injury. The team looked well-energized throughout the game. It was a solid team effort across the board."
The win kept the Mustangs unbeaten (7-0) in Yadkin Valley Conference play. The Mustangs are 9-2-1 overall. Next week the Mustangs play three conference road games. Monday they play West Montgomery, Wednesday they take on Jordan Matthews and Friday they return to East Montgomery.
O'Neal Tennis Blanks Flora MacDonald
The O'Neal boys' tennis team won its third match of the season with a 9-0 home victory over Flora MacDonald Wednesday. Falcon single winners were: Garrett Klumpar, Evan Davies, Corbin O'Donnell, Ping Virojveerakul, Mark Pracht and Ben Jackson. Doubles winners were: O'Donnell and Derek Wold, Matthew Friesen and Daniel McCall, and Virojveerakul and Robert Carroll. The Falcons moved to 3-1 with the win. Flora MacDonald is 1-4. The Falcons hosted Westchester Academy Thursday and entertain Cape Fear Academy today.
On Tuesday the Falcons defeated Fayetteville Christian, 8-1.
Youth Soccer Night Moved
The Pinecrest girls' soccer team will host Youth Soccer Night on Friday, May 1, when the Patriots host Hoggard High School at 7 p.m. The game was originally slated to be played tonight, but was moved due to a schedule change.
