Robert Charles Hilsby Jr., 80, of Pinehurst, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Hilsby was born Aug. 3, 1928, in New York City, N.Y., to the late Robert C. and Florence Hilsby. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Hilsby retired in 1985 after 37 years with the New York Telephone Company, where he worked as a design engineer. After retirement he worked as a consultant for Henkels and McCoy at the World Financial Center in New York City.

He and his wife Jean moved to Pinehurst in 1992, where he was a member of The Village Chapel, the Pinehurst Country Club and the Southern Pines Elks Club.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at The Village Chapel, in Pinehurst, with Dr. Larry Ellis officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Pinelawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home, Pinehurst.

Mr. Hilsby is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean M. Hilsby; two sons, Robert C. Hilsby III, of Jackson Heights, N.Y., and James D. Hilsby, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; four grandchildren, Robert C. Hilsby IV and his wife, Melissa, of Wantaugh, N.Y., Steven Hilsby, of Copiaque, N.Y., James Hilsby Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Jacquelyn Hilsby, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Florence Jones of Bend, Ore.
