Articles of Faith: Church Women United Celebrate 'Friendship Day'

Church Women United of Moore County will celebrate May Friendship Day at 10 a.m. at West End Presbyterian Church. This is a national event and one of four held by the organization.

The theme is "Building on Our Stories," inspired by Joshua 4: 1-9, the story of the people of Israel crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. The speaker is the Rev. Fran Stark, who is on the staff of the Chapel in the Pines.

"Fellowship of the Least Coin" will be a part of the service, where an invitation is given for an offering of coins saved for missions throughout the year. In addition, toiletries may be brought for Friend to Friend.

"All women are invited," says a spokesman.

Auction, Yard Sale

The youth of Aberdeen First Baptist Church will hold their annual auction Friday, April 24, with dinner beginning at 5 p.m. with hotdogs, hamburgers and sausage dogs.

The auction will follow at 6 p.m. The auction will be held outside in the paved parking lot beside the church. The auction will feature meals at local restaurants, oil changes, golf packages and lots of other great new and old items.

All proceeds will benefit the youth and their activities.

Then at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 25, and continuing until noon, the young adult and college class will have a yard sale in the upper parking lot beside the church.

Anniversary

Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate the Rev. Ken Headen's first anniversary as its pastor Sunday, May 3.

The speaker for the 11 a.m. service is the Rev. Michael Spinks, of Burlington, and the Rev. Frederick James, of Siler City, will speak at the 3:30 p.m. service.

Gospel Sing

Pineywood Baptist Church, Cameron, will host a gospel singing at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 26, featuring Sam Kiser and Friends, from Graham.

Elaine Kearney, Patrick Morrison, Catherine Morrison and Gail Threatt all competed in the associational Bible drill Sunday, March 22, at Ives Memorial Baptist Church.

This qualified them to compete in the state Bible drill competition at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest Friday, April 24.

Gospel Singing

Cameron Baptist Church will host a gospel singing Sunday, April 26, at 6 p.m. featuring Spirit of Grave.

New Covenant Fellowship Church, located between Union Pines High School and New Century Middle School will be hosting a free movie night, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, featuring "Fireproof."

Spring Carnival

On Saturday, April 25, the youth of Marcus United Methodist Church will hold a spring carnival hot dog dinner and yard sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hot dog plates will be available for $5. Desserts will also be for sale.

There will be games for all ages, including a cake walk and the yard sale. All proceeds will be used for mission projects and sending youth to summer camp.

Springtime Tea

Women of the community are invited to Christian fellowship at a festive, springtime tea at The Village Chapel Tuesday, May 5, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Cost is $10 for tea, tea sandwiches, and sweet treats.

Anita Gray will open the program with an inspirational devotion. Author, speaker, and etiquette and protocol consultant Cecilia Budd Grimes will then give a light-hearted look at "What It Means To Be Southern," also the title of her series of books.

Cypress Presbyterian

Cypress Presbyterian Church announces two special services:

On Sunday, May 3, the church celebrates Memorial Sunday with the Rev. Richard Rodda as the guest minister. The day features a 7:30 a.m. service in the cemetery (weather permitting), breakfast, special music, historical displays, remembrances of Cypress members and the placing of flowers in the cemetery.

There will be a special service for Mother's Day with a reception for the confirmation class, Sunday, May. 10.

First Anniversary

Kingdom Minded Ministries International Inc. and its pastors, Charles and Deborah Bloom, are celebrating the church's first anniversary.

The series will be on Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m., beginning April 26 and running through May 31. Topics will include "Why Study World Religions?", Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.

Outdoor Gospel

Sweet Haven Church, in Rockingham, will hold an outdoor gospel concert featuring The Locklears and The McNeils, at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8.

Indoor Yard Sale

Page Memorial United Methodist Church is holding an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the church fellowship hall.

"We will have furniture, appliances, toys, holiday items, glassware, household items, and a little bit of everything," says a spokesman.

The yard sale will benefit this summer's Vacation Bible School.

Worship Service

Rivers of Life Ministries will be having worship service and fellowship on the first and third Friday evening of every month at 7 p.m.

Beaver Creek

The church will host its Old Country Fair Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"We will have food, games, auction, vendors, vintage car and farm equipment on display and more," says a spokesman.

The spring tent revival will begin Sunday, April 26, at 11 a.m., and continue through Wednesday, April 29. The speaker is the Rev. Mike Cummings. The Sunday night service will be at 6 p.m. with live music. Monday and Tuesday services will start at 7 p.m., and Wednesday night will be Youth Night, beginning with pizza at 6 p.m.

Fundraiser

Bensalem Presbyterian Church is joining with Salon 7 in Seven Lakes to raise money for Moore County Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society with "Cuts for Cancer."

"Come out between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, and get a haircut, with all donations going to the American Cancer Society," says a church spokesman. "No appointment is necessary. If you don't need a haircut, come out anyway.

You can purchase luminaria in honor or memory of loved ones affected by cancer, enjoy a baked good or purchase a 'Fight Like a Girl' T-shirt."

Pinebluff United Methodist Church announces the following events:

Church Preschool

Bethesda Presbyterian Pre-school is now accepting applications for its 2009-2010 school year.

The program is open to 3- and 4-year-olds. Birthdays must fall by Aug. 31 to be eligible for this school year.

The school operates Tuesday through Thursday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., September through May.

The curriculum consists of age-appropriate learning activities, developing socialization skills and a weekly Bible lesson.

Each class is limited to 10 students and acceptance is on first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome.

Christian Science

The activities of the Christian Science Church are designed to inspire and encourage as well as explain the practical Science of Christ that heals.

They include a Bible lesson, church services, reading rooms and lectures.

The local Christian Science church holds a Sunday service at 10 a.m. and a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at 7:30 p.m. at 240 E. New Hampshire Avenue in Southern Pines.

The Reading Room, located at 173 NE Broad Street, where the Christian Science Monitor, other books and periodicals can be studied, purchased or borrowed, is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Healing Service

A healing service will be held at 5 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at The Village Chapel, Pinehurst.

The service includes the reading of God's Word, confession, prayer, the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the anointment with oil.

Bible Studies

Sandhills Alliance Church is holding two Bible studies.

One is Beth Moore's "Study of Esther."

The other is Kay Arthur's Precepts ministries study of Numbers.

Studies are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Child care will be available.

Music Circle

McDonalds Chapel Presbyter-ian Church invites local musicians to participate in an Acoustic Music Circle on the third Sunday of each month.

Area musicians are invited to play in the round in the fellowship hall from 4 to 6 p.m.

Musicians leading the Circle will be: David McDonald, of the April Fools, on fiddle and guitar; Jill McCloy, hammered dulcimer; David McCloy, fiddle.

Music of various genres will be played, especially old-time and traditional music of Appalachian, Irish and Celtic influence.

The type of music played will vary depending on the interests and talents of the musicians who attend.

Listeners are welcome, and light refreshments will be served. There is no admission charge.

McDonalds Chapel is located at 1374 Foxfire Road, just two miles from Linden Road in Pinehurst and one mile from Foxfire Village.
