The Village Chapel, in Pinehurst, will hold a two-hour presentation from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 20, on the book, "The Fourth Turning," written by William Strauss and Neil Howe, published in 1997.

"Fourth Turning" traces cultural changes and mood shifts in our society, including technological and economic conditions, and suggests the nation would enter a crisis period at the beginning of this new century comparable to other periods of great upheaval similar to the American Revolution, the Civil War, the Great Depression, and World War II.

The authors cite a recurring series of cycles in history, each of which lasts 80-100 years, and each of which has four "turnings" describe as a "high, an awakening, an unraveling, and a crisis."

Written in the late 1990s, Strauss and Howe saw America half-way through an unraveling period and suggested that the country was only a decade away from the "Fourth Turning" or a crisis period, which would begin around 2007-2009.

"The Fourth Turning" has been compared to "Future Shock" and "Megatrends," widely read books published in the 1970s and 1980s.

The presentation will be given by Dr. Al Hill, associate pastor of the Chapel and is open to the public without charge.
