College students have the opportunity through Sandhills Community College to learn Spanish in Costa Rica through an authentic cultural experience. A three credit-hour humanities elective class, "Cultural Immersion," will be held in the city of San Jose, Costa Rica.
The course will begin on July 19 and last through Aug. 2, and instruction will be through the Costa Rica Language Academy (CRLA). The CRLA is one of the few schools completely owned and operated by Costa Ricans, and all of the teachers and staff are native Spanish speakers. They will share the Costa Rican culture with the students while they learn the language.
Current Sandhills Community College students and students currently enrolled in another college, but are home for the summer, are encouraged to enroll in this course.
CRLA works with universities and organizations throughout the world. Students will find a diversified student body, creating an interesting international atmosphere.
All professors hold a university degree and students will learn or improve their Spanish, no matter their Spanish-speaking skills.
Cultural activities are arranged by CRLA, and students can participate in others arranged by the participating Sandhills Community College instructor. They will be able to visit volcanoes and rain forests while in Costa Rica.
The group will live at the Apartotel Cristina Hotel Residence Suites while in Costa Rica.
Students are encouraged to register soon, as the CRLA fills up quickly. Contact Yamil Velazquez-Fraticelli at velazquezy@sandhills.edu or 695-3870 for more information.
