In spite of one of the most challenging times in the hospitality industry, Pinehurst Resort took time out to celebrate 2008 successes with its entire employee base at its annual State of the Resort gathering March 11.

President Don Padgett and Tom Pashley, executive vice president of marketing, led the meeting with a brief 2008 overview and list of 2009 strategies, followed by a ceremony to recognize key contributors to Pinehurst's performance last year.

CEO Bob Dedman closed the meeting with words of encouragement during this tough economic time.

Two hourly staff members and two managers were recognized for their exemplary service and contributions to the company at the event.

Joanne Green, a social sales coordinator, and Bobby Spangler in facilities management each received 2008 "Do What's Right" Employee of the Year trophies. Andy Caddell in golf course maintenance and Janeen Driscoll in marketing/ communications were also recognized as 2008 Managers of the Year.

The Pinehurst Golf Academy received top honors as Department of the Year. Led by Director of Instruction Eric Alpenfels, the team created new member events, performed industry-leading research and ended 2008 as one of the only golf schools in the country to show positive growth.

More than 30 other employee partners were heralded as nominees for the respective awards, representing nearly every department.
