A memorial service has been planned for Sunday at Pinelake Healthcare and Rehab Center in Carthage, beginning at 3 p.m.

The administration and staff of Pinelake have said the public is invited to the event, to join them in remembering the eight people who were shot and died on March 29, including seven residents and one nurse, allegedly at the hands of Robert Stewart. The service will also honor the individuals whose courage saved countless others.

Parking for the event will be in the parking lot adjacent to the Moore County Health Department and Agriculture Extension buildings, with shuttles to the Pinelake facility.

In the event of inclement weather, the memorial service will be held in the Moore County Agriculture Extension building. If it is held in that building, seating will be limited to Pinelake residents, staff and families associated with the tragedy.

Also, the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association has announced the establishment of the Carthage Crisis Assistance Fund. The goal of the fund is to receive donations to assist victims of the shooting.

Donations to the fund can be sent to Carthage Crisis Assistance Fund, North Carolina Healthcare Facilities Association, 5109 Bur Oak Circle, Raleigh, N.C., 27612.
