A possibility of strong storms rolling through the Sandhills will exist until about 8 p.m. tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh.

The weather service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Sandhills, with numerous thunderstorms expected until the early evening moving along and east of U.S. 1. A few storms may become severe, producing hail up to the size of nickels and wind gusts over 60 mph. The chance of an isolated tornado can't be ruled out, according to the weather service. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
