Ron Layne, dean of instruction at Sandhills Community College (SCC) was named a recipient of UNCP's Outreach Service Award at a ceremony on Feb. 12.
In tribute to Layne, remarks were made by SCC President John Dempsey, UNCP's Dr. William Gash and Dr. Charles Tita. Also in attendance from UNCP were Dr. Darrell Page, community college outreach, and Dr. Harry Miller, Office of Outreach.
At a reception following the presentation, Layne said that a good partnership begins at the top.
"Both institutions benefit from the close and cordial relationship between President John Dempsey and Chancellor Allen C. Meadors," Layne said. "Every class UNCP provides at SCC is an opportunity for students to earn a four-year degree and to advance in their careers."
"Dean Layne has consistently made SCC and UNCP a win-win partnership," said Dr. Charles Tita, director of UNCP's Distance Education. "Most recently, Dean Layne's efforts to support an interactive video facility is reflective of his commitment to students and their success in the classroom.
"We are delighted and proud to add our acknowledgment of his dedication and professionalism. We have been fortunate indeed to have such a marvelous relationship with Sandhills. Both institutions are working to meet the growing educational needs of our respective communities."
Rebecca Roberts, SCC/UNCP coordinator, said, "Dean Layne is truly an administrator who focuses on students and their needs for their educational success."
UNCP at SCC offers undergraduate programs in business, nursing and social work and graduate programs in business, public administration and education.
